Day 13 | Las Vegas

We all slept well last night and woke late. We rushed down for breakfast at 10.00am. We found that the McDonalds in our hotel has free WiFi – our hotel Wifi is $12 per day so this update is a bit late so we can upload with the free wifi. (Unfortunately the free Wifi is painfully slow - may have to rethink this).

We booked our tickets on the hop on hop off roofless bus and rushed back to the room to shower and change to get the next bus. O’Regan and Angus went to the pool for a quick swim. The pool area is three stories up and has an amazing view over the desert and it was clear enough to see the distant snow-clad mountains. The sun was hot but there is a bit of chill in the wind. This gusty weather is related to the patterns causing the disasters to the south-east with the tornadoes. They don’t get them here.

Down to the bus and off we went – the weather was wonderful today so warm and clear. We sat up the top of the bus and took in the sights of Vegas. So many things to see. Every block has an even more extreme sight with the pirate ships and the fountains and such like.

We got off the bus at New York New York and while Rosie and O’Regan went on the roller coaster in and around the hotel McKay and Angus played the arcade games.

Then it was to the M&M shop four floors of M&M’s wow awesome – the boys loved that. Then next door to the Coke Cola shop wow – we had our photo taken with the polar bear.

Lunch was at Outback Steak House – it was themed Australian LOL. The food wasn’t that great so we felt at home. The service was great though (lots of coffee).

Back on the strip and it was now getting on for time and we had booked a show that started at 7.00pm. We had to locate the bus stop pick up point and get back to the hotel, change and then back to the Harrah’s hotel for the show all in 1 ½ hours – doable.

Okay our first problem was finding the bus stop – after running up and down we finally managed to get on the bus. Back to the room and quick change and in a taxi to Harrah’s.The show was Legends – it was a tribute to Whoopi, Liberace, Rod Stewart, Marilyn Munro, Elvis Presley, and Michael Jackson. It was a very slick show and all the impersonators had a bit of an act. Some of them were very impressive and we thoroughly enjoyed it, great fun.  The included buffet dinner was fairly average. Not as good as the buffet at our place.

Off for a wander along the strip, taking in the fountain at Bellagio, walking through Caesar’s Palace (won $12.98 from our $5 bet yippee), viewed Planet Hollywood (and used their loo), which regardless of the fact that there are renovations going on seemed to be the most open and atmospheric of the casinos we have seen so far.

Back to the room at 1.00am – the boys were very tired.

Highlights of the day:

O’Regan | Roller coaster at New York-New York.
McKay | M&M and Coke shops.
Angus | Bellagio fountains – very neat (especially when the stream land on the crowd when it is windy, not as good a Disney’s but they don’t have the same queues), lots today, eyes almost “bling”ed out.
Rosie | Yet more shopping (new Swatch watch), roller coaster, the show – so many many highlights today.
