Day 14 | Cortland to Boston

Packing up this morning from Cortland, NY and travelling to Boston, MA. About five and a half hours (520 km). We filled up at our last complimentary breakfast of the trip. Then headed out to pack the van. Prior to leaving we had a last play in the snow. It is still packed high around the hotel grounds. While we were wandering around we were treated to seeing a white-tail deer around some ponds at the back. It was so much fun to have a snow fight and do a quick ugly Christmas sweater photo shoot, it is December 1 after all.

Before we could leave we had to quickly swap McKay’s boots he got at the Shoe Depot yesterday. Seemed yesterday they felt okay, today they had shrunk. It seemed a complex process for a straight swap. Lucky they had the next size up.

Along the route we stopped at a couple of roadside State visitor centres. In addition to good bathrooms they usually have maps, ATMs and vending machines. Others are the normal service station / food operations. We are travelling a massive length of the I-90 which is partially a toll road. We had to do that card collection thing and then find it to give another booth hours later for a few bucks.

It is amazing that some places are devoid of snow and others are still dusted or even with drifts.

We stopped in to Springfield to have some dinner at Olive Garden, an Italian based restaurant chain here. It was just past five and the place packed out quickly. Maybe as the sun is setting just before five people are eating early. Big dinner, quite good. They did have one of those portable terminal ordering systems on the table which we tried out and even paid through. Very cool. There were even some games and other amusements to keep the kids (like us) amused.

The next part of the road is dubbed the Mass Turnpike as it enters Massachusetts with a cute pilgrim’s hat symbol. We checked into the Hilton Woburn but our had an overpowering deodorant smell. After a while it didn’t improve and asked to be moved. Lucky the second room was a huge improvement.
