Day 10 | Piha

What to do when it’s raining! Go to the beach.

Today we were met by showers. After a hearty breakfast of croissants, sausage and home fried potatoes we headed west - destination Piha. A surf beach of some repute.

We were diverted by a detour and saw a little road damage mostly cleared away or passable. Some of the roads were closed so there are slips out here. Crossing the Waitakere’s the fog was thick and cleared as we descended to the beach. Although cloudy the rain gave us respite to get out and enjoy a paddle.

With the black sand, resolute surfers and towering cliffs and islands it’s a remarkable location.

Returning home to a warming pork katsu was a great day. We were all a little surprised when a warning with an alarm came through to all the phones that the weather is still threatening but it feels like it’s improving a little.
